In short: prepare a clean, dry, dust-free and fully cured wall, lay the numbered panels out in order, then hang them in sequence. Non-Woven and Textured are hung with wallpaper adhesive (not included); Peel & Stick and Canvas Peel & Stick are self-adhesive. For larger walls we recommend a professional installer.
What should I do before the wallpaper arrives?
- Check your measurements. You should have ordered the full wall plus 2–4 in (5–10 cm) each way for trimming. See how to measure a wall.
- Prepare the wall. It must be clean, dry, dust-free and free from grease, silicone or loose paint, and as smooth as possible for self-adhesive materials. Freshly painted walls must cure fully before installation.
- Get the adhesive. Non-Woven and Textured need wallpaper adhesive, which is not included. Follow the adhesive manufacturer's instructions.
- Check the wall surface. On textured walls use Non-Woven or Textured; self-adhesive materials are not recommended for dusty, rough, heavily textured or damp walls. If in doubt, read wallpaper for textured walls.
What should I check when the package arrives?
Orders are checked, rolled and securely packaged before dispatch. Inspect the package and the wallpaper on arrival. Lay the panels out in their numbered order and check the print before you start. If anything is damaged or incorrect, email info@lumvinwalls.com promptly with your order number and clear photos of the packaging and wallpaper.
How do the panels fit together?
Large murals arrive in numbered vertical panels about 40 in (100 cm) wide. The artwork continues from one panel to the next, so hang them in number order to build the complete image. Exact panel width and quantity depend on the size and material ordered.
How do I hang Non-Woven or Textured wallpaper?
The steps below are the general method. Check your selected product's material notes first, and always follow your adhesive's instructions.
- Start with panel 1 and mark a vertical guide line on the wall so the first panel goes up straight.
- Apply wallpaper adhesive as directed by its manufacturer. Non-Woven and Textured are paste-the-wall papers.
- Hang the panel against your guide line, leaving the extra length at the top and bottom for trimming.
- Smooth out air bubbles, then hang the next panel in sequence, lining up the artwork.
- Trim the excess at the ceiling, floor and around openings once the panel is in place.
How do I hang Peel & Stick or Canvas Peel & Stick?
- Make sure the wall is smooth, clean and completely dry; good contact is what makes self-adhesive wallpaper hold.
- Mark a vertical guide line for panel 1.
- Peel back a short section of the backing, position the top of the panel and press it on along the guide line.
- Keep peeling the backing gradually while smoothing the panel down the wall.
- Hang the following panels in order, aligning the artwork, then trim the excess.
Do I need a professional installer?
For larger walls, we recommend professional installation. A large mural is several long panels that must line up exactly, and an experienced installer will handle the wall preparation and trimming quickly.
